SOURCE SORCERERS RETAIN MIXED TITLE IN TOUCH AUTUMN LEAGUE
SOURCE Sorcerers retained the Mixed A title in the Ernst & Young Touch Autumn League. After seven weeks of games, Source Sorcerers faced Martel-Dunn Recruits in the Mixed A finals and took the game 8 – 0 with two touchdowns each from captain Ollie Ward, Matt Brehaut and Carly Parrott and one each from Andrew Dunn and Tess Hinshaw.
In the Mixed A plate, Panthers beat Touch n Go 4 – 1 to take third place. In the Mixed B final, Specsavers and KPMG finished their 40 minute game with three touchdowns each to set up the only drop-off of the afternoon. After just two minutes of play, Tom Falla squeezed past the wing to score the winning touchdown and give Specsavers the trophy. Lloyds TSB was third.
In the mens final, Source Recruitment was able to celebrate its second trophy when Source Temps’ Tigers beat Cornerstone Exiles 11 – 2 to take the title with notable performances from Iain Atchison who scored four touchdowns and Brehaut who scored three. Martel-Dunn Recruits’ Mens came third.
GPG A Women’s Touch retained the ladies title with a 7 – 1 win over against Guernsey Post Fe-mails, which was a repeat of the Summer League ladies final. Parrott scored a hat-trick with the other four touchdowns coming from captain Paula Townsend, Hannah Lord, Claire Tostevin and Clio Phelan. Martel-Dunn Recruits’ Ladies came third.
‘It was a great eight weeks of touch and it was good to see some new players causing a bit of a stir. The Autumn League tends to be more relaxed but there is still a strong level of competition and it will be interesting to see how the teams do when it comes to next year’s Summer League,’ said Guernsey Touch chair Katrina Bray. ‘It’s hard to believe that we’re already at the end of the 2009 season and although the players can now have a rest, the committee will be working on plans for 2010 which includes training hard for the European Championships in Bristol.’
