Source Sorcerers Finally Win Their First Trophy

Updated 27 October 2008

Source Sorcerers have finally got their hands on a trophy.

Having lost three finals over the last two years, they faced Brotown in the Mixed A finals of Ernst and Young Autumn League in what was a re-run of last year’s Autumn League final and this year’s Summer League which was won by Brotown on both occasions.

In what has become somewhat of a tradition the game finished 2 – 2 which led to the only drop-off of the afternoon. Source Sorcerers kicked off first and quickly crossed the try line to make it 3-2. In their replying six, Brotown was unable to score and the game ended in Source Sorcerer’s first final win.

In the play-off for third and fourth place in the Mixed A, Mercator was forced to forfeit and so Martel-Dunn Recruits took the walkover and third place.

In the Mixed B final newly formed Muppets took on Lloyds TSB, who only started playing earlier this year. Both teams embraced the slightly less formal feel to the Autumn League and enjoyed their 40 minutes on the field. The experience of the rugby players helped Muppets to a 6 – 2 win to take the Mixed B title.

The Autumn League saw the appearance of a whole squad of new players, known as the Dream Team, who played in the Mixed and the Mens leagues.

In the Mixed B play-off Dream Team showed just how much they had learnt over the six weeks by scoring eight tries to take third place from Panthers who scored seven.

In the Mens league Leftabels, which includes some of Guernsey’s best players, enjoyed a successful season and found themselves in the final against Martel-Dunn Recruits. The experience of Leftabels proved too much and they took the Mens title after winning 7 – 1.

In the play-off for third and fourth Dream Team was forced to forfeit through injury and so Panthers Mens took third place.

‘It’s been another enjoyable Autumn League and it’s been fantastic to see some of the players who only started in the summer continuing to make progress and even better to see a whole new squad turn up,’ said Guernsey Touch chair Andrew Hutton.

‘The 2008 touch season has now ended but it won’t be long before momentum starts to build ready for 2009 which will no doubt see the return of some very familiar faces and hopefully some new players. Anyone interested in getting involved can get in touch with the committee through our website at www.guernseytouch.org.gg.’
