Exciting Semi-Finals Sets up a Thrilling Finals Night

Updated 5 August 2007

A drop-off decided the winner of one of the Mixed A semi-finals as the Ernst & Young Summer Touch League comes to an end.

In all six leagues the top four teams went through to the semi-finals with the leaders playing the team in fourth and the second and third place teams up against each other.

Mixed A leaders Brotown came up against Source Sorcerers who they had already beaten twice in the league. After 30 minutes the game ended 4 - 4 and the only drop off of the evening began. Each team lost one player and played for two minutes and as the winning try still had not been scored another player left the field for a further two minutes.

Both teams were down to three players each and as it was the last match of the night the tiredness began to show. The winning try was scored by island rugby player Andy Bailey and put Source Sorcerers through to the finals.

In the other Mixed A semi-finals Untouchables benefited from recent recruit Dylan Chatterton and beat Walbrook Funky Bunch 6 -2 to set up a final against Source Sorcerers.

In Mixed B semi-finals two new teams found themselves up against established teams. Ogier Mixed played Argyll Investments and Partners Group played Specsavers Squirrels. Argyll Investments went through with a 4 - 0 win and will play Partners Group who beat Specsavers Squirrels 6 - 0.

Only one try decided the winners in both the Mixed C finals. HSBC Panthers Mixed beat Deloitte and Touch Mixed 6 - 5 and in the other game just one try was scored by Generali Group to give them victory over Healthspan.

The Mens Finals look set to be a close fought battle between JOCA and Clubhouse Casuals. JOCA, made up of island rugby players, found themselves up against Green Armee, the under 16s island rugby team. JOCA's age and experience proved too much and they won the game 7 - 1. In the other game Clubhouse Casuals put four tries on the scoreboard and won the game 4 - 1.

Having moved down from Mixed A at the half way stage, Isabels have gone through to the Mixed B finals with a 6 - 3 win over Ogier Mens. Isabels will play Specsavers Stags who beat Deloitte and Touch Mens 6 - 4.

Having had the experience of playing in the mixed league last year Touchy Feely and A Women's Touch won their semi-finals in the womens league and will face each other in this week's final.

A Women's Touch beat Specsavers Sirens 4 - 0 and Touchy Feeley beat Untouchable Ladies 3 - 0.

The 10 other teams from the leagues played friendlies and this week's games will decide their final placings.

Tricky's Tornadoes beat Mercator Musketeers 6 - 0 and just one try separated the game between HSBC Panthers Mens and PwC Mixed which ended 3 - 2. Erik Will Fix It beat women's team Touch N Go 1 - 0, PwC Mens put nine tries past KPMG who couldn't get across their own scoreline and the game between Bob's Cycleworld and Trys R Us ended 7 - 0 to Bob's.

'It was a great night of touch and it's fantastic to see just how much some teams have improved since the start of the season,' said Guernsey Touch spokesman Andrew Hutton.

'Finals Night looks set to be the highlight of the season and there will be some close fought battles for this year's trophies.'
